6.6.42 (2th February)
Updates in version 6.6.42 released on 2th February 2012
IMPORTANT ! This update changes the minimum Durell screen size from 800x600 to 1024x768, in order for more information to be displayed per screen. Please do not proceed with this update until you have checked your screens are suitable (which 99% should be). Some customers may have already received many of these developments via interim releases, however no-one will have received all the features in this latest update, some of which are crucial.
Loading time: approx 2 minutes
Version numbering: the first two numbers indicate the actual version, while the final one indicates minor revisions, which can largely be ignored. So if you find the update on our website has incremented to 6.6.43 or 6.6.44, etc, it'll probably just incorporate some further improvements.
For All users we've added a revised Complete Policy Register, which allows you to link Word templates to your product types and then easily print a client's entire policy register (via Reports / Client) . We've also added an option to select your own columns in the scrolling lists of Policies, Claims & Renewals (via the Binoculars pop-up in these programs). Finally we've added templates for Journal Entries in the accounts (e.g. for processing VAT) so that it's easier to consistently select the correct debit and credit accounts.
For our Life, Pension & Investment customers we’ve added the ability to get annuity quotes online from Webline and made a number of improvements to the Valuation reports.
For our General Insurance customers we've developed "Add-on" policies (via an "Add-on" button at the bottom right of the Premium screen) whereby standard policies (e.g. for Legal Expenses or Uninsured Loss Recovery) can be added to base policies with a couple of clicks, and then be included in their posting to accounts. Note that a template for each standard add-on policy must be set-up beforehand, via the existing Signpost option for Standard Answers. This update also includes a lot of important fixes for Insurecom-related motor and household policies.
All UsersWHMinimum screen size increased from 800x600 to 1024x768 to allow more data to be displayed per screen. WHThe "Complete Policy Register" in "Reports / Client" has been improved and simplified, and is now also available under "Reports / Life" and "Reports / General". WHAdded user-defined columns via the Binoculars button in the scrolling screens for Policies, Claims & Renewals. If you include the "Comments" column then these can be entered by right-clicking the policies in the scrolling list WHThe "Setup / Import" program can now load adviser, lead and insurer codes. WHAdded a template facility for Journal Entries to be more easily repeated in the accounts WHFixed (fairly obscure) problem with the Trial Balance, so it can now cope with commission earnings being entered in the Purchase Ledger. WHCorrected problem with the Document Viewer when using the new docx format, where multiple documents based on the same template on the same date are now correctly named. WHThe printing of the Client Notes has been speeded-up. WHPolicies and documents should no longer get separated from clients as a result of a client renaming failure, and previously orphaned ones will be re-linked by this update. Life, Pension & InvestmentsWHThe Basic Valuation report now includes the original purchase price with an option to show the growth. WHFixed an occasional "Divide by zero" error that sometimes happened during valuations. WHFigures for "Structured for growth" accounts, and "Structured for income" ones, are now included in the valuation reports. WHAdded a facility to clear the "Also in factfind for" and "Also in valuation for" fields. WHAdded a Signpost button option to copy "Also in factfind for" names to all of a client's other policies. WHAdded three new fields for each policy's current total regular premium, accrued single premiums, and their applicable date. WHThe routine to calculate the revised premium resulting from policy variations now includes lump sums. WHAdded new option on Web-link (a.k.a. Client Facing Services) for on-line Portfolio Analysis (n.b. requires Fin Express Lite, or better) WHAdded new option on Web-link for clients to upload documents directly into the main Durell database's Document Viewer WHUsers with a Webline account (free if you take-up 36 items per year) can now get online quotes for annuities General InsuranceWHiprism ref nos are now passed to the accounts while the underwriter ref nos are additionally available on the policy and claims screens. WHThe existing button on the Document Viewer to "Link to Current Policy" now changes to "Link to Current Claim" if activated from one. WHRe-broked Insurecom policies now carry-forward the expected start and end dates from the expiring policy. WHImplemented a new "Add-on" button on the bottom-right of the Premium screen to add standard policies (e.g. Legal Expenses) to base ones (e.g. Motor). This latest version also copies the invoice date and policy stage to the add-on. WHUpdated the Insurecom link so it sends co-proposers' full names (i.e. the required new format) instead of just their initials. WHMMA Legal Expenses add-ons via Insurecom are now correctly tagged as "add-ons". Note that these do not need to be entered as separate add-on policies in Durell, and they still appear automatically with the base policy. WHThe system now correctly receives the reduced number of NCD years returned in Insurecom renewals. Previously the correct premium and details would have been included in the renewal's risk, but documentation issued by Durell might have shown the previous policy's NCD years. WHFixed the problem where some MTAs processed via Insurecom were returning an incorrect premium of zero for the adjustment. WHFixed the problem with lapsing Insurecom policies by meeting new requirement to include the original end date. WHFixed the problem with Insurecom renewals by meeting new requirement to remove the Excess Breakdown Result and the Endorsement Result sections. WHFixed the problem with theft claims for Insurecom motor policies and added new options for "Theft of items from vehicle" and "Theft of vehicle". WHNow prevent incorrect premiums from Insurecom caused by deleting renewal invitation, then processing an MTA (e.g. for more expensive vehicle or cover), then re-accepting the original renewal. WHFixed the problem where claims sometimes could not be deleted WHThe full details for advisers and leads are now available to Word from claims. Special (for SSG)WHThe "Selection for Postcode Area" pop-up for adding contacts to claims now includes user-selectable fields. WHAdded "Handling Fee" fields to the screen for non-policy related Claims.

- Re-name it as SKANDIA INVESTMENT SOLUTIONS and click the "Save" button
- Now also change its code to SIS* and again click the "Save" button
- Exit back to the Setup screen and double-click "Online Contract Enquiry" in the list on the right

- In the "Report Name" enter "Check Suspense"
- Click "Selected Nominals"
- Click and tick the nominal called "G*CS General, Comm (in suspense)"
- Click and clear the tick from "Part-reconciled items"
- Click and clear the tick from "Unreconciled items"

- Click "OK" twice then check the report.
- If you see any fully-reconciled items still in G*CS then call the Durell Help Desk on 01823 334142 (don't worry - this is not urgent)

To quote Insurecom "The next stage is for Aviva to put rules in place so that Durell brokers are pushed towards the new Aviva Powerpoint Plus scheme. Once this is done Aviva will activate Durell brokers for the new scheme. There will be a lead time for Aviva to make the changes to their products." 5.72 (23rd February)
Updates in version 5.72 released on 23rd February 2010
Life & Investments - Financial Express
Durell is currently negotiating with Financial Express regarding the cost of a fund price feed to Durell members. A single feed via Durell would be cheaper than individual feeds, which currently cost around £50 per month each. Depending on the number of subscribers we might be able to offer this for around half that price. If you are interested, please email me indicating what would be your preferred figure and you maximum figure for this service. The benefits are (1) to keep your list of all funds and their prices up to date, and (2) to allow you to compare fund performances via graphs. Although it also allows you to revalue using the current price (as described above) it cannot tell you the current number of units, for which you would still need either to phone the investment company or use on-line Contract Enquiry.
General Insurance - Accounting Developments
Your Durell program should soon be able to produce an RMAR report (using the accruals method) in the layout suggested by the FSA in its "Guide to Client Money for General Insurance Intermediaries". Our ultimate aim is to print this report for you with all figures filled-in, though for now I'm afraid you'll still have to extract the figures from a number of separate reports (see below).
To this end we recently developed the Sales Ledger Listing report to be able to show figures as they were on a given date (e.g. a previous year end, or period end), i.e. it will now show what commission was in suspense, transferable or earned at any historic date. The Sales and Purchase Ledger Listing reports are also particularly useful for auditors trying to ascertain all the individual transactions that make up the year end totals in the Trial Balance.
You can already get listings for your Debtor and Creditor Controls at an historic date (via the Reports button on the Main Menu, then the Accounts tab). However until this release it was difficult to get a listing of just your Finance Sources, such as Premium Credit, Close Brothers, etc. This update creates a new address set specifically for Finance Sources, and automatically moves your existing finance source records (as specified by your F1 to F5 posting methods) into it, so they can be now be listed separately on the Aged Debtor report.
In forthcoming updates we'll be adding further developments to identify and report on (1) cleared and un-cleared money in the bank account (i.e. via "ticked" entries) and (2) co-mingled commission types (i.e. for brokers having both risk transfer and non-risk transfer agencies). Once all these items are in place we should then be able to produce automatic RMAR reports suitable for most brokers.
All UsersWHInvoice numbers can no longer be edited WHComments at the bottom of statements have been increased from one to two lines WHThe "Notes" field for advisers is now passed to Word, where it may be used to sign-off letters (e.g. with the adviser's name, title, qualifications, etc) General Insurance WHAdded new screens for product types "Other / Marine, Yacht & Boat" and "Other / Marine, Commercial". All old data is retained and the new fields may be passed to Word for inclusion in marine policy schedules

5.64 (4th January)
Updates in version 5.64 released on 4th January 2010
A major new development in this release is the revised Document Viewer, which now stores both documents and scanned images in client folders in a new overall folder called DOCUMENTS (i.e. that replaces DOCS and SCANS). Please refer to our Help section Set-up, File Paths and in particular to Set-up, Client Document Folders. As explained in this Help, you may alternatively keep all of your client folders as they are in SCANS, and simply move your documents into them. To do so, immediately after the update reset the default document directory to your old scans one, and tick the option to set it for all users. Then when you use the "Manage Doc Folders" button to re-locate your existing linked documents clear all the ticks relating to scans (i.e. leave the scans unchanged). If in doubt please phone our Help Desk on 01823-334142 before starting.
Another new development is that you can now easily switch between Account Sets, so for example, you can now post some policies in Euros while posting others in Sterling or Dollars.
The setting-up of access rights in the "Set-up Users" program has also been much improved, with the addition of context sensitive help and a new print option.
For all customers the "Regular Payments & Retainers" program now has a new user-definable scrolling view, while a Commission Refund facility (i.e. against fees and retainers) has been added for IFA users.
All UsersWHThe Document Viewer now stores all files in client folders within a single new folder called “Documents”. Existing images, emails and letters can either be left in “Scans” and “Docs”, or moved to the new combined one. WHRegular Payments and Retainers now has a VAT calculator, a facility to print a list of all regular payments, an option to re-set the “Last Posted” date, and a new Scrolling View. WHSetup Access Rights now includes context sensitive help for each individual right. There is also a new facility to print each user’s details showing all of their rights. WHThe date for the Auto-Reconcile facility in the Sales Ledger (“Pile-of-Money” toolbar icon) now defaults to the current date instead of the invoice date. WHThe Setup Filepaths utility now automatically locates your version of Word. WHThe Web-link setup now has an option to print details of all currently selected records WH It is now possible to change account set from the Accounts menu, without having to log-out. WHA fix has been implemented to ensure all users have the same compliance dates and thus allow consistent reporting. To create or update a fact find you must use the “Revise” button, which now allows fact finds to continue being changed for a user-definable period (e.g. up to 7 days). WHA new option has been added when posting commission for life, pensions, savings & investments to create a Sales Credit for the policy holder to contra against fees (which would be invoiced separately). WHThree new product types have been added to Savings & Investments...“Life settlement”, “Account, structured for growth” and “Account, structured for income”. WHTwo new product types have been added to Pensions...“Occupational Money Purchase Pension” and “Occupational Final Salary Scheme”. WHThe usable fact find screen width has been increased from 580 to 650 pixels so that fields set to 100% wide fit an A4 page exactly. Also a Page Break item has been added to control the printed layout, and text may now be entered in paragraphs rather than a line at a time. 5.59 (4th November)
Updates in version 5.59 released on 4th November 2009
For all customers this update includes a new optional link to Webline for life protection business, much of which is unregulated. Provided your business takes-up 36 such
policies per year through Webline this service will be FREE - but if less than 36 then it'll cost £120+VAT pa (which is still cheaper than The Exchange). For more information
double-click the following... Webline set-up and Webline usage. Note that taking-up 36 policies per year is different from taking-up 36 policies through Webline, and only
the latter will result in free Webline usage.
Another very useful new facility is the option to remove expired, matured or similarly "dead" policies from the scrolling view of all policies. In reality they're just
temporarily hidden - but this makes the display much clearer. For more information double-click... Policies, Scrolling View
For our General Insurance customers we've added a new credit-check routine (via Insurecom), which when accepted may result in a lower quote from Aviva, who are also
offering 2.5% extra commission until next February 1st on their new Personal Best product (previously Powerpoint). Finally they are also introducing their own new premium
credit facility. Although all these facilities have been developed technically in Durell, they will only come into effect when Aviva switch them on. Household EDI renewals
should also now be running smoothly.
For our Life & Investment customers we've substantially improved the Funds Held report, and added a new link to Analytics (available from Financial Express) for the
sophisticated analysis of investment portfolios. We've also completed the programming of four new planners that will run directly from the fact find routine
